According to the Program on national tourism promotion program for the period of 2013 – 2020 approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Vietnam will focus on some following actions to step up tourism.

The program aims to intensify activities popularizing national and local destinations, the country’s special tourist products and services abroad to attract more foreign tourists and increase their staying and spending.

By 2020, three to four tourism promotion activities will be done for each of the major international tourism markets, including Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Pacific, North America, Western Europe and Eastern Europe; and at least one activity will be carried out for each of potential markets such as South Asia and the Middle East. Additionally, at least 50% of tourism promotion activities will be expanded size as well as scale and improved in form and content.

In addition, popularization and promotion in the country to raise awareness of protecting the tourism environment and behaviour to tourists will be paid attention. By 2020, 3 - 5 tourism events will be organized each years in localities with tourism potentials. The program also mentions coordination with 15-20 big domestic communication agencies to popularize tourism.

To reach the above targets, the country needs to step up popularizing Vietnam’s tourism abroad such as introducing destinations, joining international tourist fairs, conferences and seminars, advertising on big magazines, TV channels and panels, inviting travel firms and foreign media to make surveys on destinations and linking national and local tourism promotion units with each other.

Beside this, tourism promotion in domestic market will be forwarded with many actions such as organizing the national tourism year, big cultural, sports events, workshops and seminars, advertising tourism on media and many others.

Another focus of the program is developing online marketing and producing publications to support tourism popularization.

The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to build management and directing policies to realize the program.
