Adobo night: a fundraising event for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan

Many Filipinos, Vietnamese and other nationalities in Saigon are lucky that the deadly Typhoon Haiyan tapered off before it could do damage to southern Vietnam. But, as most know by now, the Philippines hasn’t fared so well. The entire Tacloban City in Leyte was wiped out and is in dire need of food, water, and shelter.

That’s why Joan Manalang, a Filipina and head chef at Geisha Café, has put together this food event that will benefit the victims of the storm.

On 20 Nov from 7-10pm, Geisha will sell a special chicken adobo wrapped in banana leaves with salted egg and tomatoes — the “Binalot” way of serving and eating it in the Philippines. This dish can last for a week or more if put in the fridge and reheated when desired. A “generous” percentage of the earnings from the adobo sales will go to the Philippine Red Cross to help victims of the typhoon.

The food will be available at Geisha Café, 85 Pasteur, District 1, for dine-in or takeaway.

To ensure donations went to this institution, a transaction copy will be posted on Geisha’s Facebook page after the event.
