Vietnam ranks 5th on the world’s best destinations for Generation Z travelers by Travel + Leisure, reflecting the country’s growing appeal among young people seeking authentic experiences, cultural immersion and affordable adventures.
In its latest list of the 10 Best Places for Gen Z Travelers to Visit Right Now, the U.S.-based travel magazine ranks Vietnam among the top global destinations for a generation that increasingly values meaningful travel overcrowded tourist hotspots. According to the publication, Gen Z travelers are prioritizing lesser-known destinations, local culture and unique experiences rather than simply visiting the world’s most famous Instagram locations.
Travel experts interviewed by Travel + Leisure describe Vietnam as a destination that offers an exceptional combination of history, cuisine, natural beauty and affordability. The country’s vibrant cities, welcoming communities and diverse landscapes make it especially attractive to younger travelers looking to explore beyond traditional vacation routes.
The magazine recommends beginning a journey in Hanoi, where visitors can experience centuries-old architecture, lively street markets and one of Asia’s most celebrated street food cultures. From there, travelers are encouraged to continue to Ho Chi Minh City, known for its dynamic urban energy, before heading to Hoi An, the UNESCO-listed ancient town admired for its preserved heritage and charming atmosphere. A cruise through Ha Long Bay, with its dramatic limestone islands, is also highlighted as an essential Vietnamese experience.
The recognition aligns with broader travel trends among Gen Z. According to research cited by Travel + Leisure, nearly seven in ten young travelers want to visit destinations they have never experienced before, while a large majority prefer smaller cities and rural areas over heavily visited tourism hubs. Vietnam’s blend of iconic attractions and lesser-known cultural destinations positions it well to meet those evolving preferences.
The latest accolade adds to Vietnam’s growing international profile as a leading tourism destination. In recent months, Hanoi was also recognized by Travel + Leisure as Asia’s best city for solo travel, reinforcing the country’s reputation for rich culture, walkability, accessibility and memorable culinary experiences.
As global travel demand continues to evolve, Vietnam is increasingly being recognized not only as a destination for sightseeing, but as a place where younger generations can enjoy authentic cultural connections, outdoor adventures and high-value travel experiences.
