If you’ve ever set foot in Da Nang, chances are you’ve heard of Dragon Bridge – one of the city’s most iconic and unique architectural landmarks. More than just a vital transportation link, Dragon Bridge embodies the image of a modern, ambitious, and proud Da Nang.
1. Location and Scale
Dragon Bridge is located on Vo Van Kiet Street, spanning the Han River and connecting Da Nang International Airport with My Khe Beach. The bridge stretches about 666 meters long and 37.5 meters wide, featuring six lanes for vehicles and two pedestrian walkways on either side.
From the city center, you can easily reach the bridge by motorbike, car, or even on foot if you’re staying on the western bank of the Han River.
2. Dragon-Inspired Design
The most impressive aspect of the bridge is its design, which mimics the image of a dragon from the Ly Dynasty – a symbol of power and prosperity in Vietnamese culture. The dragon’s body curves gracefully along the length of the bridge, with its head facing the sea, reflecting the city’s youthful ambition to reach out to the world.
At night, the bridge comes alive with a system of color-changing LED lights, creating a dazzling, dreamlike scene that captures everyone’s attention.
3. Unique Fire and Water Show
One of the most exciting features of Dragon Bridge is its ability to breathe fire and spray water. At 9:00 PM every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the dragon’s head performs a captivating display of fire-breathing and water-spraying. Standing beneath the bridge, surrounded by the cheers of onlookers, and witnessing the fiery spectacle lighting up the night sky is truly an unforgettable experience.
4. Best Viewing Spots
For a perfect view of Dragon Bridge, you can head to the eastern side of Tran Hung Dao Street, which offers a direct line of sight to the dragon’s head. Nearby is also the Love Bridge – a romantic spot ideal for photos and scenic views. For a more spacious setting, you might prefer the riverside park or cafés overlooking the Han River.
5. A Symbol of Aspiration
More than just a bridge, Dragon Bridge is a powerful statement of Da Nang’s development – modern, dynamic, yet deeply rooted in its cultural identity. The dragon’s image stretching toward the sea is a symbol of an open, forward-looking future, representing a city that continues to grow and transform.
